No Outsiders at St Oswald's CE School

Everyone is welcome, valued, and accepted at St Oswald's. We value and celebrate diversity of all kinds and teach children this explicitly. As a church school we follow the teachings of Jesus using the parable of 'The Good Samaritan' as the basis for how we treat each other.

At St Oswald's we explicitly teach equality and an appreciation of diversity through the No Outsiders book programme. This provides a series of age appropriate books that introduces to the children different areas of diversity as outlined in the Equality act such as gender equality, race equality, disability, LGBT awareness and so on. These are read with the children and the content discussed. Sometimes the children may read these are part of their literacy lessons and produce follow up work. The books that are used for each class are as follows (you can ask to view these in school anytime).

We also hold regular 'No Outsider's' themed collective worship where we look at ways in which people can live out Jesus message of 'Love your neighbour as yourself' and to teach the children about different forms of diversity.
